Elizabeth McGee

Licensed Clinical Social Worker

Welcome! If you're here, you're probably feeling like you've hit the proverbial wall; or maybe you're feeling like you're the only one who can't get it all together. I promise you're not alone, and far from the only one feeling this way. Maybe you're depressed, anxious, or feeling unable to cope with whatever life's thrown at you. Life transitions and unexpected changes can mess anyone up, even those who historically have been just fine. Or maybe you're done with "fine" and ready to live with more joy. Whatever led you here, I'm glad you made it this far; and even though you might not believe me yet, I know you can feel better.

What's therapy like?

I help clients:

  • Remember that you naturally have what you need to feel better. You have innate strengths!

  • Identify ways of coping that feel right for who you've become; what's worked in the past may need some updating.

  • Manage life transitions that may seem unmanageable: launching, building a family, caring for elderly parents, or  grief and loss.

  • Develop and navigate healthy  relationships.

  • Manage conditions such as depression, anxiety, substance use, and postpartum complications.

Every therapist is different, and finding the right one for you is super important in order to have a successful and healing experience . My approach in the therapy space is down to earth, real, and collaborative. While I generally practice from a relational, trauma informed perspective,  every client is different and deserving of individualized care;  and my approach may include some cognitive work (CBT), mindfulness, or even coaching. It really depends on a client's specific needs. Sometimes, I'll take a more directive approach as many clients appreciate having clear and concrete steps on which to take action in  between sessions. This provides a sense of empowerment, movement, and pace as clients have real life experiences to bring into the next session. Basically, your therapy will be just for you. Because that's what you deserve.

About Elizabeth

I have served the greater Long Beach and Los Angeles areas for over two decades. My  education and experience as a clinical social worker have led me to serve in a variety of settings; including college campuses, hospitals, and nursing homes. It's in these different settings that I've had the opportunity to care for a diversity of clients across the lifespan.  In the last fifteen years, I've had the privilege of caring for hundreds of women and families as my practice has focused on maternal mental health; and I have helped women through postpartum depression, anxiety, and other perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs).

I view therapy as a healing relationship in which clients can try out new ways of beingwithout fear of judgement or failure. My strength of connecting to others and seeing them as more than their symptoms has supported hundreds of clients through transformative change.
